The Importance of Selecting a Good RV Cover

It’s become impossible to drive along any interstate highway without seeing one or more motorhomes tooling smoothly along in the right lane. These highway behemoths are equipped with high tech suspension systems, and seem to glide over the highway.

It’s difficult to take your eyes off from them; they have become so stylish and sleek. Their excellent exterior finishes, however, are subject to dirt, debris, rain, hail, and burning hot sun. Owners who understand the need to protect their RV investment are using RV covers.

Most RV owners understand the need for protection during long-term storage, but why is it needed when you’re on the road? Just because your RV is parked overnight in an RV park doesn’t mean that it is not exposed to a harsh environment. Wind, rain, hail, flying debris, temperature changes – all these dangers continue to exist, especially overnight.

If you’re travelling in cold weather, polypropylene covers are probably your best choice. These covers are usually designed with one or more zippers that allow you easy and convenient access to the RV without removing the cover.

Another commonly used cover is the Tyvek cover, which is known to provide excellent protection for your RV from all types of weather damage, including extended exposure to rain and direct sunlight. On the downside, it is a bit pricey. As alternative selection might be the Expedition cover. This is an excellent choice for RVs requiring long-term protection under heavy duty conditions.
If your concern is the protection of the RVs finish from the effects of UV rays, the Goldline cover might be the one for you. These are seen often in desert areas or other areas where there is a likelihood of significant exposure to damaging UV light. These covers, which are made from tightly woven fabric, also are provided with zippered openings for all doors.

When choosing a cover, it is important to determine what fabric is used, as it can make a critical difference in the degree and type of protection provided. A good quality cover breathes, enabling moisture to escape. If moisture is allowed to gather between the cover and the RV, mildew and mold can accumulate, and rust and corrosion can ruin your finish. A breathable fabric does not entrap heat, allowing it to escape and cool your RV.

It should now be clear that buying an RV cover is not a simple as it seems. You must do your research to determine which cover is the best for your circumstances.

Whatever type of cover that you do finally decide upon, make sure that you have your RV’s correct measurements, including spare tires, ladders, and AC units, before you buy. Do your homework and you’ll end up with a cover that suits your unique requirements and protects your RV investment for years to come.
