The Benefits of Joining an RV Community

What is an RV community? It’s a group of people, either online or offline, that share information, ideas, and tips about using, maintaining, and enjoying the RV travel experience. The communities can be a great help to those persons who are new to RVing, and are getting ready to take to the road for the first time. Each RV community is different, focusing upon different aspects of the experience. It’s important to find a community that focuses upon you interests.

The online communities are easy to find. Simply conduct an online or “Google” search for RV networks or RV communities. If one community doesn’t meet all of your needs, join more that one. Be careful not to overdo it though. You want to spend your free time RVing not networking! Once you find a good helpful community or communities, stay with them and contribute your ideas when possible.

Most of the popular RV community websites offer a list of best practices and advice. Some of these lists are quite extensive, and can be a great help even to the experience RV traveler. Many new and experienced RVers depend upon these communities for information and advice when seeking to buy or sell an RV motor home, purchasing RV insurance, buying warranties, and numerous other topics. This is a great place for the beginner to do his research before his makes his first RV purchase.

Some of these networks specialize in one type of RV vehicle: motor home, fifth wheeler, travel trailer, or tent trailer. They usually have good, up-to-date information on the prices and availability of parts and accessories, and can recommend needed maintenance services. They also provide information for do-it-yourself repairs and improvements to your equipment. Members come to depend upon the community’s discussion board to ask and answer specific questions about troubleshooting, maintenance, places to go, etc.

If you’re planning your first trip, most of these RV community websites will have a checklist for beginners to be sure that you bring everything that you need. They also have excellent checklists for those who are planning to purchase a new or used RV, or who are planning their first trip. They also provide your with directions to popular camping areas and maintain a running report of weather conditions around the country.

Joining one of these communities and networking with other RV users is prudent move. Because they are online, you can access them from anywhere in the country. The larger communities have members from all over the country, from every major city, enabling you to seek and get help if you have an accident or mechanical problem while on the road. When you join one of these groups, become very familiar with their discussion boards so you will know how to quickly find other members of the community should you need help.

Lastly, make sure that you join an RV community that will meet your needs as you become more experienced with RV travel, and be sure that you make yourself available through the discussion boards, to help other beginners who could benefit from the experience of an “old timer.” These communities are the most effective when everyone participates.
